Why

Why do artists butcher their work with horrible typography? Learn to develop a good sense of typography before you decide to put ridiculous captions and watermarks on all of your works.

If you're going to make a $500 million film, wouldn't you expect the story and characters to support the visual enormity of it? I won't deny that Avatar is visually satisfying in some aspects, but no matter how expensively grandeur cat people and floating mountains are, it does not erase how weak and how bland the story really is. Marvel over the 3D CGI all you want, I won't blame you. I'll probably join you but only if I'll be able to mute the shallow dialogue.

However, I won't overlook what qualifies as an amazing movie. If Avatar echoes of a combination of Princess Mononoke, Dances with Wolves, The Last Samurai, the Matrix, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Quigley Goes Down Under, etc., minus any complexities that create a truly unique plot, then you might be watching a film that has unfortunately given up on provocative writing and has relied on meh-visuals. Besides, it's so cliche to create abundant parallels with our current situation (oppression of colored people, exploitation, genocide, environmental destruction, capitalism, imperialism, colonialism, greed), especially when the message isn't particularly evocative. And do we really need another white/human dude as the protagonist? I mean, without him, the audience wouldn't have been able to connect to or understand the story, but it's just so typical of films by white people these days. They experience the guilt in terrorizing another culture, and find a way to redeem themselves by fighting with the natives, and eventually rise to become the strongest or most powerful pseudo-native. Is this some fantasy of the oppressive culture? I'd like to see a movie where the people being oppressed find a way to whip the shit of the oppressors without the help of some white/human dude.

And lastly, PAPYRUS? In caps? Really? They could've at least gone with Comic Sans for readability. Or better yet, they're spending an ass-ton on CGI, they could've at least hired a type designer to design something a little more tailored to the film.

I'm just waiting until DeviantArt is flooded with some really cheesy (and possibly nasty) Avatar fan art.
